New? Start here!

I am a thirty-something year old Dutchman who has recently begun his journey unto financial freedom. Actually, my journey started already when I started working full-time. From an early start I knew I would not last a lifetime of working 65+ hours a week.

Combined, I have over 10 years of experience in the audit and consulting practice of a large accounting and advisory firm. I still benefit from working those long hours under enormous pressure while maintaining a high level of quality of my work. Precious times!

I got intrigued with investing about a few years into the latest bull market. Just to try things out I got started with about $1.000 while learning  along the way. Being a CPA and my experience in accounting, made going through financial statements trying to value a company a lot less daunting!

Along the way I got married to my lovely wife and after a few years my daughter and son were born. It is amazing how kids change your perspective on life. I turned from a career-focused individual to a loving husband and dad! How is that for a change (and responsibility)?!

After these life events, I realized again that spending time with family and friends while doing the things you love is the most important thing in life! As a result, I started this blog to write about my journey to do just that, but full time!

I write blogs on Financial Chipmunk focusing on:

  • Saving
  • Investing
  • Real estate
  • Detailed financial progress reports on my journey to financial freedom
  • Anything else that strikes my financial interest.

I strive to make posts practical and actionable making it is easy for you to apply the same principles to reach financial freedom. This blog is just to show that it is possible to become financially independent while still having the time of your life!

As I am not a native English speaker, please forgive me the occasional (?) error in terms of grammar, wording, etc. I’m improving every day! 🙂

Although this blog is all about investing and making money, please remember that there is more to life than becoming rich. Becoming rich is never my goal. Achieving freedom is! To become free in this world, you need to save and invest your money wisely.

There is more than money and financial freedom

But more than wanting to achieve freedom on this earth, I know that I am already free in Jesus Christ. Money is a tool, but never a goal in itself.

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (…)

No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”
Matthew 6:19-21, 24

Happy investing and God bless you!
